New Run4Shelter Moonlight Edition Scheduled for September 9

Haven Ministries is hosting a new Run4Shelter Moonlight Edition on September 9 at a new location at the Chesapeake Bay Business Park (near Terrapin Park) in Stevensville, MD. This is the 9th Annual Run4Shelter event which benefits Haven Ministries, Inc., a nonprofit organization in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland. Haven Ministries, which provides hope through shelter, food, clothing, and support to men, women, and children, operates a homeless shelter, food pantry, thrift store, street outreach and transportation program, and a resource center. Proceeds from this event are used to keep all of these programs operational. The Run4Shelter event is named in honor of Haven Ministries shelter services, which last year served 31 men, women, and children from December through April.

The 10K race starts at 5:30 p.m. and will travel along the Cross Island Trail. The 5k race starts at 6:00 p.m. and will cover the scenic grounds of Terrapin Park on paved and gravel paths, as well as off-road sections of grass and sand. All runners and walkers must complete the course by 7:30 p.m. Pets, roller skates, skateboards, strollers and other wheeled devices are not allowed on the course for the 5k or 10k.
According to Krista Pettit, executive director of Haven Ministries, “The event proceeds will benefit our shelter services, which are an important service to the residents of Queen Anne’s County. Last year, we served 10 children (along with their parents).  Many nights in the late winter, the shelter experienced either near or full capacity conditions.”

She adds, “We have re-energized the Run4Shelter by creating a fun nighttime event for this year. We think it will be a lot of fun for people of all ages. You don’t have to be a runner to participate. We want people to come out and have a good time.”

The After-Race Party will include food and beverages from area restaurants, including a beer truck provided by Harris Crab House, as well as a DJ for dancing. There will be award finisher medals for all race finishers.  Over 50 volunteers participate in this annual event and this year there are more than 40 community and corporate sponsors, including Bronze Level: Trades of Hope/ Holly Gorham, Mary Kay/ Corbie Haas, I Live for Christ/ Shannon, Edward Jones/William Caughey, Splendid Consignment Shop/Avon, Legal Shield/Joe Allegretti, Honey and Lace/ Natalie’s Honey Hut, Solar City/Michael Sousa, and Computer Island/Lolita Watkins; Silver Level: Lundburg Builders, Salon Atelier, Howard Bank/ Kara Plummer, Maid Healthy, Chesapeake Hearing, and Holiday Inn Express; Gold Level: Bayview Portraits by Cindy Sigmon, Harris Crab House, Hemingways, ArtCademy, Railway Title, The Narrows, and Riley Construction; Platinum Level: Safe at Home Senior Care, Prospect Bay Country Club; and Benson and Mangold/Chuck Mangold Jr.; Sapphire Level: BayTimes; and Diamond Level: Increte.
